Mitsubishi Galant V6 to 8 g 3 g Eclipse Guide to removing Plenum

Remove the air intake plenum:
First of all, the task at hand is really easier than it looks. The only thing is. .. it takes time. If you know anything about cars or what are the things under the hood, I suggest you take a look at fig. 18 and see if this is comprehensive to you. If it is and you have the tools and feel comfortable, please proceed. If not, I suggest that you find a qualified mechanic instead of doing it yourself. The plenum itself is actually very easy to debunk, only 13 bolts nuts hold in position &. (Fig. 19) What makes it complicated is all the other stuff you need to unbolt and move out of the way so the plenum is free to completely flip up and give you full access to the spark plugs.

Tools needed:
• Ratchet with 10 mm Sockets 12 mm, 14 mm &
• spark plug socket (17 mm???)
• 3 9 ? ? & ratchet extensions
• Pliers - a regular and nose of a needle
• Jewelers flathead screwdriver
• can of compressed air or air hose (optional)
• can carburetor cleaner
Clean rags and paper •
• 1 litre plastic bottle such as motor oil or a sturdy piece of wood or simular to that height used to shore up the air intake plenum
• security code (if you have radio Commons)
• a clamp if trimming the underneath the air intake tube (optional)

To make things easier, after debunking the element and move it out of the way, always put the bolts in one taken when possible. In this way, there is less bolts remember where it should go. For others who have to remove bolts, put them in a newspaper unfolded concerning the position of the plenum. Just picture in the middle of the newspaper as the plenum bolts and position the paper in the same relative position to help you remember where to go later.

Let me give you some background information first so you get a better picture of what we are trying to do and what it is that were moving out of the way to our last task. Yes, we are trying to move the plenum of sense, but there are some things that are attached to the plenum you really dont have to worry about. (Fig 6 & 7) These things will remain connected and moved along with the plenum as a piece. They are the throttle body, throttle cable adjustment bracket, EGR vacuum hoses and valves. Will be referring to the 22 pictures below for all the instructions.
