Truth: Most of the outer body panels on a Land Rover are in fact made of aluminium. But the car is built on an old fashioned ladder frame chassis. Casing corrosion may suffer any vehicle more than ten years: the State of the visible body parts provides no guide to the State of the chassis and casing replacement is a very expensive job. The other vital structural component is SCHOTT-the structure on the windshield, dashboard, steering wheel column, doors, bonnet and front wings are screwed. Is this, as the chassis a safety-critical and guess what? It is made of steel, and it rusts. Replaced a SCHOTT is almost as involved and as a chassis replacement expensive.
